TO IMPROVE STUDENT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

School District Goals 2009-2010

Institute Professional Learning Communities (PLC's) to maximize teacher effectiveness to increase student learning. 
• Introduce the PLC concept to all staff and develop departmental and divisional teams.
• Use PLC teams to determine essential outcomes and develop common assessments for core curricular courses.
• Ensure that all Division Chairs receive training on PLC's.
• Provide quarterly staff development opportunities that are linked to the district's transition to PLC's.
• Identify needs to structure and support Response to Intervention (RtI) Tier 2 and Tier 3 systematic and intensive interventions to improve academic performance.
• Use PLC teams to align curriculum in core areas to emphasize the mastery of essential outcomes.

Through the Lyons Township Data Consortium, continue to build a data-driven decision-making model to increase student achievement.
• By October, 2009, provide member associate schools with data on their students' performance at LTHS.
• Provide staff development on the use of data so that PLC teams can utilize student performance indicators to support curricular revisions.
• Develop an individual student growth model to track the achievement and progress of students over a sustained period of time.
• Monitor and evaluate the academic performance of students who perform in the lower quartiles of each class and use this information to make curricular revisions to improve student achievement.

Increase opportunities for all students to maximize their performance on high stakes tests
• Review the alignment of core academic course content to ACT college readiness benchmarks.
• Integrate Work Keys skills into appropriate elective course offerings.
• Increase by 5% the number of students who take AP tests and earn a score of 3 or higher.

Improve the academic achievement for minority and immigrant students.
• Target PSAE Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) increases for minority and immigrant students.
• Provide minority and immigrant students sequenced activities to coordinate their interests with college and career pathways.
• Increase the co-curricular participation rates of minority and immigrant students by 5%.
• Increase the participation rates of minority, immigrant, and students with IEPs taking ACT Prep classes by 5%.

Maintain a safe school climate that is conducive to learning.
• Provide resources that educate students, parents, staff, and community on mental health and social emotional issues.
• Ensure that district programs and initiatives that promote a safe and secure learning environment are communicated to all students, parents/guardians (First Class Principles, R.O.A.R., Speak-up Line).
• Annually administer a school climate survey to students.
