What is Baccalaureate?

Baccalaureate is a time for graduating seniors to reflect, share memories and give gratitude.

The Baccalaureate Program at LTHS began many years ago as a religious program recognizing the “ beginning of the end”: a service documenting the senior student’s journey toward their graduation from high school.

Today, Baccalaureate is NOT a religious ceremony. It has become a student directed reflective program allowing senior students to share memories, give gratitude and reflect on their high school years and their futures. This is an opportunity for students to come together, celebrate their past four years at LT and look forward to their future…wherever it may lead.

This year, the program will be held on Sunday, May 20th, 2012 in the Reber Center. It begins at 2pm and usually lasts about an hour and a half. The LTHS varsity choir participates, along with a performance by the senior Eurythmics dancers. Individual students participate by reading poems, speeches or stories that have had an impact on their lives or that they have written themselves. In addition, students may perform their musical talent as a soloist or small ensemble. We can help students select something to perform!

We meet each Wednesday after school in the NC Library: Room A. Students are not required to attend each meeting; they are only required to keep in contact with us over email throughout the semester. Our first meeting is Feb. 1, 2012.
