Spring Parent University Continued.....
Sixty parents, educators, and administrators joined Parent and Community Network for the presentation of " RAISING RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, AND RESILIENT CHILDREN - JUST WHOSE JOB IS IT? " by popular Parent University presenters Karen Jacobsen, MA, LCPC, LMFT and Lauren Bondy, MSW. Karen and Lauren shared the struggles that parents and today's children are having in balancing their lives and determining priorities, and shared some ideas for how parents to help their children develop the skills they need to deal with today's challenges. Highlights of the conversation included:
Traps of a Privileged and Pressured World: Overstimulation, avoidance of conflict, over-involvement/over-protecting/rescuing, over-indulgence, over-focus on performance and academic success....
What Kids Really Need: Connections with parents and other adults, mentors, time and attention, limits/boundaries/consequences, downtime and boredom, struggle, disappointment and conflict, responsibilities, values, empathy and the freedome to make mistakes!
