Getting Involved:

The LTHS Parent Teacher Council encourages parents to get involved in PTC activities. There are several ways parents can get involved:
• Attend PTC board meetings.
• Volunteer to serve on the PTC Board. Board positions include president, vice president (ascends to president in year two), recording secretary, corresponding secretary and treasurer (two-year position).
• Volunteer to chair a PTC committee.
• Volunteer to help on a committee. Serving on a committee is a great way to way to meet other parents while participating in your student’s high school activities.
Committees and 2009-2010 committee chairs are listed below.

Chaperones: Work with the LT activities director to contact volunteers for all LT dances (year-round).

College Night: Recruit and schedule volunteers to work the college night

Communications: Work with LT and the PTC to publicize events. Also work with LT technology staff to update the PTC section of LTHS Web site (year-round).

Directory: Work with LT technology staff to compile, print and distribute the student directory (spring/summer).

Freshman Experience Day: Help serve lunch to all incoming freshmen attending Freshman Experience Day in August just before the beginning of school.

Future Freshman Night: Host a table to answer questions about the PTC. This event is typically held in late November/early December.

Open House: North Campus and South Campus open houses are scheduled on separate dates in September. Help provide staff for the volunteer stations at each campus. Volunteers distribute schedules and information packets. Freshman/sophomore parents coordinate North Campus; junior/senior parents coordinate South Campus.

Post Prom: Organize the Post Prom event at Navy Pier. Duties include working with a committee to provide fundraising, publicity, mailings, accounting and chaperones.

Registration: Work with the LT assistant principals to recruit and schedule volunteers to work the registration tables at both campuses in August. (Individual committee members will work with a single grade level at LT.)

Staff Appreciation: Plan and execute staff appreciation luncheon during National Teacher Appreciation Week in early May and bus driver breakfast at the beginning of the year.

Volunteer Pool:Parents are solicited at registration via our online volunteer form. Collect the volunteer information from our online tool and distribute the volunteer lists to all committee chairpersons. Throughout the year, work with the LT activities director to contact volunteers for specific events.
