A 1943 graduate, Dr. Allen earned his Bachelor of Science in Basic Science and his M.D. from
the University of Illinois in an amazing four years by taking classes year round. He interned at
the University of Iowa Hospital from 1947-48 and completed his residency in pediatrics at
Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1948-50. Dr. Allen returned to LaGrange in 1950 and
began his forty year career at the LaGrange Memorial Hospital in which he served as the head of the
Department of Pediatrics many times. Dr. Allen held many positions in the community including:
serving on the Board of Education in District 102 for six years, sitting on many committees for the
LaGrange Congregational Church, contributing to the foundation of the LaGrange Rotary Club, serving
on the Economic Development Commission in LaGrange for six years and on the West Suburban Mental
Health Association. Dr. Allen is a member of the American Medical Association, the Chicago Medical
Society, the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 1980, Dr.
Allen worked with the American Refugee Committee at a refugee camp in Thailand for four months and
went to the Island of Grenada as a medical volunteer with Project Hope. After retiring in 1990, Dr.
Allen volunteers many hours a week. Dr. Allen and his wife Joyce have six children and resides in
Lacey, Washington.
