Outstanding in the Class of 1963, earning ten varsity letters in four sports, named to the All
State football team in two positions, an honor student, received the Stenger Award for outstanding
class athlete and the American Legion Citizenship award, Frederick Barofsky also excelled at the
U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Named permanent president of his class, cadet captain and
battalion commander, he started and lettered in lacrosse and football, holding the record for
longest punt return in USMA history. Commissioned in the U.S. Army after graduation, he served five
years in West Germany and South Vietnam, as a battery commander in West Germany and as an artillery
battery commander in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division. He received fifteen meritorious
service and gallantry in action awards, including the Silver Star for Gallantry, the Bronze Star
for Meritorious Service, the Purple Heart, eight Air Medals for combat action, and the Vietnamese
Honor Medal. In 1974, he earned an MBA in marketing from the University of Chicago, then began his
real estate development career. He established Barofsky Associates in 1980, developing, leasing,
and managing commercial property in the Chicago area, and the Indoor Sports Management Group in
1991, owning and managing indoor sports arenas throughout the Midwest.
