Carol J. Evans, a 1970 graduate, began her publishing career in 1975 working in advertising sales for American Home, Ms., and McCall's magazines. In 1980, McCall's moved her to a management position on their new launch, Working Mother magazine, where she became publisher one year later. She was instrumental in the launch of several new magazines, including baby! magazine and the Working Mother Bulletin Board. At age 32, she was the youngest person ever to be named a vice president of the McCall's Publishing Company. As president and publisher of Stagebill magazine since 1989, Evans heads the largest program publishing company in the U.S., which publishes 28 distinct program magazines that serve 85 of the nation's most prestigious arts organizations in 11 markets. Her programs are read by more than 1.5 million people monthly and are distributed at 28,000 dance, music and theater events annually. Under her direction, Stagebill magazine serves a broader purpose by encouraging readers to bring new audiences to the arts and urging corporate leaders to support their local arts organizations. Stagebill's Arts Integrated Marketing Division, initiated by Evans in 1990, has produced more than 100 special publications and sponsorships, including calendar guides for Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Chicago Theater, as well as salutes to symphony, dance, opera and theater companies throughout the nation. Evans was inducted into the YWCA Hall of Women Achievers in 1984, and into the Who's Who of Business Leaders in 1993; served on the Board of Directors of Kindercare Learning Centers, Inc. and is a board member of Young Playwrights.
