F. Henry Habicht, II

A 1971 graduate, Hank Habicht is an advocate for stewardship of the environment. He has enjoyed a 20-year career in the environmental and energy fields that includes leadership positions in business and senior presidential appointments in government. He serves as a Commissioner on the newly-formed National Commission on Energy Policy and as a member of the President’s Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations. Mr. Habicht is also CEO of the Global Environment and Technology Foundation, a leading non-profit corporation that fosters innovation in environmental management and in applications of clean technology. He is a founding principal of Capital E, LLC, a firm that promotes investment in new energy technology. From 1993-1998, he served as Senior Vice President of Safety-Kleen Corporation, a billion-dollar environmental services company. He led the Environment and Natural Resources Division at the U.S. Department of Justice from 1983-1987, and managed all national litigation related to energy and resource development and environmental policy. The number of civil and criminal environmental enforcement prosecutions more than doubled during his tenure with the Department. He was founder and chair of the National Environmental Enforcement Council. From 1989-93, Mr. Habicht served as Deputy Administrator (Chief Operating Officer) of the Environmental Protection Agency. While at the EPA, he oversaw a $7 billion budget and 18,000 employees and implementation of several laws, including the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. He serves on numerous boards and graduated in 1975 with High Honors from the Woodrow Wilson School of Princeton University and in 1978 from the University of Virginia School of Law.
