After graduating from LTHS in 1969, David Polzin earned a bachelor’s degree with honors and a doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with high honors from the University of Illinois. In 1981, he received a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. A professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Minnesota since 1994, he specializes in nephrology-urology. His research centers on renal disease and renal failure, therapy of renal failure, epidemiology, fluid, electrolyte and acid-base disorders and therapy, and spontaneously occurring diseases of the urinary tract. Dr. Polzin is internationally known among the nation’s leading specialists in veterinary nephrology, and is a regular contributor to veterinary medical journals. He has secured more than $1 million in research grants and authored chapters on chronic kidney failure in dogs and cats in veterinary medicine textbooks used at all major schools of veterinary medicine as well as at most large veterinary practices throughout the world. Additionally, he has authored hundreds of articles and lectures and been invited to speak at conferences around the world.
