2011 Student Rep to the Board :::

LTHS announces new Student Representative to the Board

Lyons Township High School’s A. Sabatino, Class of 2012, was named the 2011-2012 Student Representative to the Board of Education. She starts her one-year term in August.

Sabatino has lived most of her life near LT, so she is ready to represent what has become a big part of her life since she was a child. She has witnessed the power students possess through her participation and leadership roles in Operation Snowball, girls’ golf, track and field, along with Italian Club and Student Council. Sabatino also dedicates her time to her Plymouth Fellowship Youth Group and Off the Street Club. Her active involvement in these activities has helped develop her into a fair and honest leader, who is not afraid to voice her opinions and make a difference. She has also learned “the positive influence that students have the power to project.”

Sabatino will act as a liaison between the administration and students and unite these two groups. Her goal is to “make sure that the students are not feeling left out on decisions that are affecting them.” She wants to provide her fellow classmates with an outlet that will allow their beliefs to be heard. Sabatino is eager to positively influence the LT community and uphold the expectations of creating a community that provides education, friendship and leadership by being the Student Representative to the Board of Education.

The Student Representative to the Board was created 12 years ago and was designed to improve and increase student participation and presence in school operations. The position requires the liaison to have a broad view of the school and all aspects of the LTHS experience.

As student representative, Sabatino will have the dual responsibility of reporting to the Board of Education as well as to the students who she represents. She will be required to:
• Attend all full Board meetings, serving as an advisory, non-voting member. She will be excluded from closed session discussion, as well as committee participation, unless otherwise directed.
• Prepare and present a report for the Board on behalf of the student body.
• Meet with the Superintendent prior to each Board meeting in preparation for items to be discussed.
• Serve as a member of the Student Council Executive Board and attend weekly Executive Board meetings and monthly Council meetings.
• Prepare and present a report for the Student Council on behalf of the Board of Education.
• Attend committee meetings for either organization, as directed.
