LTHS musicians play and croon their way up to the top

Thirteen Lyons Township High School students were recently named All-State Musicians, with six of them designated as repeat honorees, having been named among the All-State ranks last year.

This year, five of seven LTHS student All-State singers were named to the coveted Honors Choir; seniors K. Burke, C. O’Brien and H. Reeder are repeat choir honorees. Band members S. Diebel and D. Hickey are also two-time All-State Musicians, and this is the second year as an All-State musician in orchestra for R. Manning.

All-State musicians are chosen by the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) based upon preliminary auditions held in October. Each year, students from approximately 575 high schools in Illinois audition and approximately 1200 students statewide are named All-State musicians.

“The All-State selection process is very time consuming and rigorous, and those students who choose to make this commitment and dedicate themselves to this endeavor find honor in the effort itself as well as the recognition of being named to an All-State organization,” said Division Chair for Fine Arts Leslie Stickels. “It is truly a wonderful educational and musical experience with memories that last a lifetime,” she added.
