All State Musicians :::
Twenty-one Lyons Township High School students were
recently named All-State Musicians. For decades, LTHS has dominated the choral category and this
year is no exception. Once again a large contingent of the All-State choir is from LTHS.
This year, 10 LTHS student singers were named to the All-State choir; seniors N. Burke, M. Dost, J. Jost, A. Miller and K. Rozycki are repeat honorees, having been named to the All-State Chorus last year.
In addition, eight students were named All-State musicians in orchestra, coupled with one in band and one in the composition category, as well as senior N. Covey being named a Future Music Educator.
All-State musicians are chosen by the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) based upon preliminary auditions held in October. Each year, students from approximately 575 high schools in Illinois audition and approximately 1200 students statewide are named All-State musicians.
“The All-State selection process is very time consuming and rigorous, and those students who choose to make this commitment and dedicate themselves to this endeavor find honor in the effort itself as well as the recognition of being named to an All-State organization,” said Division Chair for Fine Arts Leslie Stickels. “It is truly a wonderful educational and musical experience with memories that last a lifetime,” she added.
Students named All-State musicians will perform at the annual IMEA convention later this month. Instrumental musicians reaudition for judges and are then ranked and seated in either the All-State or the coveted Honors band or orchestra. While choir members do not compete at the convention, seven LT choir members were named to the Honors Chorus.
