LTHS business students qualify for State competition

Congratulations are in order for 32 members of the Lyons Township High School Business Professionals of America (BPA). Students recently competed in Regional contests and qualified for State competitions. LT students performed extremely well in a variety of categories, including Fundamental Accounting, Fundamental and Advanced Spreadsheet Applications, Banking & Finance, C++ Programming, Java Programming, PC Servicing & Troubleshooting, Fundamental and Advanced Word Processing, Small Business Management Team, Interview Skills, and Extemporaneous Speech. Ten of the winning BPA students qualified for state competition in multiple categories. The BPA state competitions will be held February 24-26 in Oak Brook.

In the words of their faculty sponsors, “the students were professional, mature, and made LT standout!” The students are led and coached by business teachers Kimberly Welch and Jennifer Steele.

Business Professionals of America is a national organization for high school and college students preparing for careers in business and office administration. The organization’s activities and program complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of skills learned at school. BPA contributes to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.
