FCCLA awards culinary students
Decorating cookies, baking a cake and making outfits are all in a day’s work for several Lyons Township High School students who recently received awards at the Illinois Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competition. Students participated in regional activities and continued on to state competition and earned awards in the following categories:
K. Robinson, senior: Cookie Decorating, Gold
J. Gomez, junior: Cookie Decorating, Gold
K. Cholewa, junior: Cookie Decorating, Silver
N. Dobner, junior: Cookie Decorating, Gold
E. English, junior: Cooke Decorating, Gold
M. Malec, junior: Cookie Decorating, Gold
M. Malec, junior: Cookie Decorating, Silver
K. Riesterer, junior: Cookie Decorating, Silver
Z. Stamatelos, junior: Cookie Decorating, Silver
S. Janas, junior: Cake Decorating, Silver
A. Harn, junior: Professional Career Image, Gold
K. Conway, junior: Garment Construction (Semi-Formal Wear), Silver
Seniors B. Corrigan, S. Curtis, M. O’Donnell and M. Zapletal, also competed in a Culinary
Competition, which is similar to an Iron Chef event. In a field of 83 competitors at
regionals, all four students earned a silver medal.
