Lions score big at FCCLA competition

Decorating cookies, baking cakes and sewing outfits are all in a day’s work for students who participated at the Illinois Family, Career and Community Leaders of America regional competition. In total, 13 students will advance to state level competition next month in Springfield.

Culinary Arts, an event similar to Iron Chef America. LT students captured five of the nine spots moving on to state. Congratulations:

Cake Decorating Students made and decorated a cake that serves 24 or more for a baby shower. Students also had to detail for judges how they would run their own catering business.  Students had one hour to decorate their cake.

Garment Construction – Semi formal – Competitors make and model a semi-formal dress, complete with accompanying accessories.

Illustrated Talk - Students make an oral presentation about issues concerning Family and Consumer Sciences and/or related occupations. Participants must prepare a file folder and visuals.

Preschool Storytelling - Students demonstrate creativity and skills in telling a story to 3-5 year old children, with original teaching aids to enhance storytelling. They prepare and execute an organized lesson plan and develop storytelling techniques with props. Following the presentation, students participate in a short question and answer period concerning story selection, age appropriateness, selection and production of teaching aids, and how the story relates to the day’s curriculum.
