300 Science Olympiad Coaches Visit LT :::
You won’t see helmets, kneepads, jerseys or cheerleaders, but next week on November 6-7, more than 200 coaches from across Illinois, and even a few from Indiana, Wisconsin and two from Hawaii, descended upon Lyons Township High School to ready their teams for serious competition. These coaches don’t prepare just any athlete; they prepare academic athletes – Olympians – Science Olympians.
LT hosted the Illinois Science Olympiad Coaches Clinic on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7th. The coaches were at South Campus in science classrooms and the fieldhouse.
Friday night clinics included bridge, rocket and plane construction. Saturday clinics included instruction on the 23 events that their students will be competing in this year: anatomy, astronomy, battery buggy, cell biology, chemistry lab, compute this, disease detectives, dynamic planet, ecology, rockets, bridge, environmental chemistry, experimental design, forensics, fossils, Meteorology, Ornithology, Physics Lab, Physical Science Lab, Remote Sensing, Road Scholar, Solar System, etc. There was also be a presentation on TI Calculators and Probes.
Presenters came from: Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio, and North Carolina.
LTHS Math/Science Division Chair Michele Chapman serves as the Illinois State Co-Director and was instrumental in securing the Clinic at LT.
