LT students win art scholastic awards :::

LTHS artists win lion's share of awards, contingent advances to national level

The art work of 14 Lyons Township High School artists, including one freshman and four sophomores, will advance to the Scholastic Art Awards national competition in New York, where they will join selections from across the country. Judges will critique and choose just 700 winning pieces based on thought, technique, execution, and overall impact. LT's contingent includes two Art Portfolios, one Photo Portfolio and 12 Gold Key winners.

Nine of the students advancing to national competition had multiple pieces of art recognized at the regional level. Multiple winners include senior S. Callahan, who will advance to nationals in the Photo Portfolio category as well as the digital art category as a Gold Key winner; she also received one Silver Key award and four Honorable Mention awards in the digital art category.

In addition to the pieces that will advance to national competition, Lion artists received 28 Silver Key awards, pieces that represent the second highest level of achievement at the regional level, and 32 Honorable Mention awards, works judged worthy of recognition.

Winning artwork will be on display in the main lobby and adjoining auditorium lobby at Downers Grove North High School, 4436 Main St., Downers Grove. Visit the reception scheduled for Sunday, February 6, 1pm to 4pm. The show will also be open to the public Monday, February 7 through Friday, February 11 during the school hours of 8am-3:30pm.
