LT linguists earn recognition on national exams
Congratulations are in order for Lyons Township High School foreign language students. Students in French, Latin and Italian recently took national exams developed, written and scored by nationwide committees comprised of high school and college professors belonging to their respective foreign language professional organization. While each organization categorizes and classifies their top scorers differently, LTHS linguists consistently place among the top.
Italian student senior M. Donnelly earned the second highest score in the nation on the Italian IV National Exam sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI). The hour-long multiple-choice exam consisted of reading and listening comprehension and grammar questions. Thousands of Italian students across the country participated in the exam. Donnelly will be attending Seaton Hall University in the fall.
In Latin, senior H. Kassner received special recognition for having earned the prestigious gold medal on the National Latin Exam for all four years of Latin. Kassner will take the stage and be recognized at the National Junior Classical League convention this summer and was awarded an Oxford Classical Dictionary, which she will take with her to the University of Chicago next year, where she will pursue classical archaeology.
