Parent University continues to celebrate parenting

Participants attending the annual Lyons Township High School Parent University, Saturday, February 3 2007, 8:00 a.m.-1:30p.m. at South Campus, will have an opportunity to attend workshops designed to give parents insight into a variety of issues.

 Parent University attendees will hear multiple presentations on parenting and learn new skills. The cost is $15 in advance and $25 at the door and includes workshops and a continental breakfast. Register early as sessions fill quickly.

The keynote speaker is Susan Wilkie, PhD, LMFT. Her topic will be Strengthening Families: From Stress to Resilience. In this lecture, she will identify and foster core elements of resiliency that enable families to deal effectively with life’s challenges and promote family strength and health. Dr. Wilkie is a seasoned practitioner who received her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from Purdue University and her master’s degree in Psychology from Northwestern University. She currently practices in Willowbrook.

In addition to the keynote speaker, there will be three workshop sessions filled with information for parenting children of all ages. Some of the topics covered will be information on: Helping your Child Love to Read, Anxiety in Children, Tips for Internet Safety, Relationships in the Family, Substance Prevention, Social –Emotional Learning Strategies, and Teen Depression.

Babysitting services for pre-registered participants will be available. Children must be between the ages of 3-10 and be potty trained. A snack will be provided. The cost is $5 for each child.
