WLTL Communicator Award :::
WLTL receives national awards
For the eleventh year in a row, the Lyons Township High School student-run radio station, WLTL
88.1 FM, received an Award of Excellence from the Communicator Awards. More than 7,000 entries were
accepted, but only 51 audio submissions received recognition. The competition is open to all
broadcasters, commercial production houses and advertising agencies, not just student productions.
WLTL won in the Comedy category – the only award recipient in this category.
The winning work was submitted by M. Dorris, senior; B. Kabialis, senior; J. Spataro, senior;
and S. Prentice, junior. The four students produced parodies of “On-Star” radio advertisements,
which ran in December 2008 on the sketch comedy show, “Walk the Plank.”
Additionally, WLTL won an Award of Distinction for on-air promotion for the morning show, “AM
Mayhem.” This piece was produced by Dorris and Spataro and featured all hosts of the morning show.
