Soft Lockdown Follow Up :::

Soft Lockdown Follow Up

On Wednesday, June 4, the Western Springs Police Department arrested and charged two female students with disorderly conduct and obstructing a police officer in connection with threatening graffiti found at South Campus that led to a soft lockdown on April 29th.

LT was aware of these students and their involvement within hours of the incident, and both were given a maximum 10-day suspension, but because the police investigation was ongoing, the district was asked to keep all details confidential. Sharing information could have jeopardized their investigation. Both students withdrew from LTHS prior to their expulsion hearing. The Board voted in May to hold their 2-year expulsion in abeyance. Should either student attempt to re-enroll their expulsion hearing would resume.

Whether or not these students had any intention of carrying out their threatening message is not at issue. By making the poor decisions they did, these students forfeited their right to an education at LTHS. This behavior disrupted the school day and disturbed our sense of security. The district and local police departments are equally committed in our efforts to address any type of threat at LT.
