National Honor Society (NHS)
NHS is designed to foster a sense of community amongst academically motivated students as well as an avenue to be seen as leaders and promote community service within the school and community. The organization hopes to exemplify these four pillars: character, service, leadership and service.
Please keep track of your volunteer hours from the summer and this fall. You will be contacted with information on where to log those hours sometime this fall. We are in the process of changing our method of keeping track, so please bear with us. All of the hours you have earned since May 2019 will be accepted as long as you have an outside verification form signed. If you volunteer within LTHS you do not need an outside verification form, but please keep track of the date, time and LT staff member in charge of that service. Be sure to check out the “volunteer opportunities” link. We will continue to post them as we get them. Thanks for your patience!
Criteria for Invitation
Students that meet the minimum standard of scholarship of an un-weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher or a weighted GPA of 4.25 or higher) will be invited to apply. NHS invitations would come to those who match this criterion following their 5th semester (2nd semester junior year). Seniors who are not members of NHS, but meet the criteria, will be invited to apply at the end of their 7th semester (2nd semester senior year).
Candidates shall then be evaluated by the selection committee on the basis of service, leadership, and character when completing an application. The committee members will review the application, personal statement, and recommendations of each applicant to determine eligible for membership in NHS. The induction ceremony will be held on April 24, 2019.
- Acquire 15 volunteer hours minimum
- Participate in volunteer activities at LTHS
