What should I buy - PC, Mac or Chromebook?
With the increasing delivery of content via web browsers, especially the District's use of Canvas, G-Suite and Infinite Campus, most recently-manufactured PCs (laptops) or Macbooks will be appropriate/adequate for school-related use. A modern, up-to-date browser (i.e. Chrome, Firefox, Safari) is typically all that is needed for most users.
Chromebooks, too, can offer functional access to most services, though they're generally not capable of installing and running more advanced, specialty applications. As part of it's move towards a student 1:1 program using Chromebooks, the District is presently considering options for making these sorts of applications available to students via the browsers.
If the student/family currently wants or needs to use the installed versions of Microsoft Office Suite or other specialty applications, the requirements of those applications, along with the families' own preferences of hardware and capacity to support their own devices, should shape their considerations.
