Illinois EPA has determined that alkaline (normal household / single use) batteries can simply be thrown away in the trash. (More info)
If you are looking to recycle the following batteries, LT Recycling Club holds an annual Battery Drive.
- Car/Boat batteries (Lead Acid / SLA)
- Rechargeable household batteries (Ni-MH)
- Rechargeable cordless phone or digital camera batteries (Li-Ion)
- Rechargeable power tool batteries (Ni-Cd)
- Specialty - Button cell batteries (for car remotes, hearing aids)
Outside of our battery drive, you can recycle or safely dispose of the above batteries locally:
- Batteries Plus (Lead Acid, Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, Li-Ion, Speciality Batteries as well as Fluorescent Tube Bulbs and Small Electronics)
- Home Depot (Ni-MH, Li-Ion, Cell Phones)
- Naperville Household Hazardous Waste Facility - open to all Illinois residents (Lead Acid / SLA)
