The IHSA has updated the sports schedules after the nine week pause of the winter seasons due to rising number of COVID-19 cases in November and December across the state of Illinois. The IHSA Board of Directors met for a special board meeting on January 27, 2021, where the Board provided an updated sports schedule and other guidance for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.
The Board approved the following schedule for the remainder of the school year:
With the new schedule, students and coaches will need to continue to wear masks and social distance at all times as they return or start their sports seasons. For most sports, masks need to be worn at all times and all individuals must social distance when they are not engaged in their sport. We will continue to use the Qualtrics Symptom Screener filled out by parents or guardians for each student when they come to campus either for instruction or for an extracurricular activity. We will continue to use all of the IDPH, ISBE, CDC and IHSA mitigations to keep everyone safe while participating in their sport.
The IHSA also approved contact days for sports that are out of their season. LT will start by solidifying the schedules for the in-season sports first as they will not have another time this year to practice and compete against other schools. Then we will add contact days for the next available season. For instance, during the winter, we will offer contact days for the spring sports. During the spring season, we will offer contact days for the summer season. A list of these seasons and the sports that will be held during each season is listed on the LTHS athletics website on the Starting Dates link. This will maximize the practice for each sport to help the athletes have a quality experience for their high school season. More details will come from the coaching staff for your particular sport.
We are excited to have the opportunity to offer all of our student-athletes a season this year. For a long time, that was in doubt. These seasons will look differently than they have in the past, but we will make the most of them. We also know that the current schedule can change again if factors change in our community and state. Please wash your hands, wear masks, social distance and continue to avoid large gatherings in an effort to keep the numbers trending in a positive direction.
