AP Exams

General Information

  • Purpose:

    The purpose of the AP exams is two-fold:

    • It introduces students to college-level courses while in high school.
    • The AP exam gives students the potential to earn college credit (depending on the college’s policy).


    Who takes the AP exams?

    • 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students
     
    Is the AP exam optional or required?
    • Students who take the class are strongly encouraged to take the exam, however the exam is optional.


    What areas does the AP exam cover?

    • LTHS offers 31 AP exams which correspond to the AP courses offered at LTHS.

    REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

    • To avoid paying a late fee, you must register for your AP exams by November 6, 2020 by 11:59 p.m.
    • Students enrolled in a SEMESTER 2 AP course must register by March 5, 2021.
     
    How do I register for the AP exam?
    TWO-STEP Process:
    1. Enroll in your AP course: Go to myap.collegeboard.org and use the specific join code associated with your AP class section to enroll in the course. Join Codes will be available at the start of the new school year.
    2. Purchase your AP exam: Students can register online through the LTHS webstore. Students who prefer to pay by check or cash can register in-person at the Office of Assessment and Research--North Campus, room 45.

    Do I have to complete any AP registration paperwork?

    • Students complete their registration information when they enroll in the AP course(s) at www.myap.collegeboard.org. 
      • High School Code--select the NORTH CAMPUS CODE (142483) even if you attend at South Campus.
      • School Address/City--La Grange (even if you attend the Western Springs/South Campus)

    Is there a fee for this test?

    • The registration fee is $95.00 per exam. (Please note: this fee amount is subject to change by the College Board.)
    • Students who miss the registration deadline will be charged a $40.00 late order fee.  (Please note: this fee amount is subject to change by the College Board.)
     
    Can I cancel my AP exam?
    Students may cancel their AP exam registration by completing an AP Cancellation Form.
     
    THE DEADLINE to cancel an AP exam has been extended to MAY 7, 2021. 
    • Cancellation Policy: Student must complete an AP Cancellation Form by the published deadline. AP Cancellation Form can be obtained in the Office of Assessment and Research, room 45-North Campus and by clicking here. Telephone cancellation are not allowed. No requests for cancellation will be accepted after the deadline.
    • Refund amount: For 2020-21 only, students who cancel by the deadline are eligible for a full refund of $95.00. 
    • Cancellation Deadline: May 7, 2021
    • Forms can be submitted to the Testing Office, room 45 at North Campus OR sent electronically to nkalkowski@lths.net.
     
    What do I do if I missed the AP exam?
    Late AP exams are offered for students who have specific reasons for an absence (i.e., illness). In some cases, there is a $40.00 late testing fee for ordering a late AP exam.
     
     

Test Day Instructions

  • Test Location:  
    Most of the AP exams will be administered at LTHS North Campus. A list of specific testing rooms will be distributed to students prior to the exams in April 2021 and will be available from the Testing Office or the AP teacher.
     
    What should I bring on test day?
    Students need to bring their photo ID, #2 non-mechanical pencils, a black or dark blue pen, and an eraser. A calculator is allowed for some or all parts of AP exams in these subjects only: Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Physics 1, Physics C: Mechanics, Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism, and Statistics.
     
    If my AP exam is on a LATE START DAY, what time does my exam begin?  Students are required to report to ALL AP exams by 7:45 a.m. for a morning exam and by 12:00 p.m. for an afternoon exam.  AP exams are administered nationally and internationally and exact start times are required by the College Board.  If your exam falls on a Late Start day, the start time for the exam is still 7:45 a.m. for a morning exam and 12:00 p.m. for an afternoon exam.
     
    Can I bring a snack? 
    Students will have a very short break during which a snack can be eaten.  Snacks must be stored at the back of the testing room.  Please do not bring a water bottle to the test.  There are water fountains available.
     
    Can I bring my cell phone? 
    Cell phones are NOT allowed in the testing room and will be collected and completely powered off if they are brought into the exam.  
     

Score Reporting Information

  • How do I receive my AP test scores? 
    AP scores will be available to students online beginning in July at www.apscore.org. Students must sign-up for a College Board web account at www.collegeboard.org/apstudentss in order to access their scores.
