Jazz Strings is a student centered co-curricular string ensemble that focus on musical styles dictated by the musical interests of members. These have included rock, folk and traditional fiddle music, to classical chamber music. For informal, participatory music, students learn how to perform each style with a characteristic sound and groove, and work on playing by ear, improvising, harmonizing and playing backup parts.
With chamber music, we work on playing well-known pieces at a high standard, with performances in the community, as well as LTHS orchestra concerts.
Jazz Strings is open to any North Campus student with prior string playing experience.
Rehearsals: once a week, after school on a day that fits members' schedules.
