Start with Hello

Document Viewer

September 23-27

The  LT SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) Promise Club is launching a week long initiative called Start With Hello. The Start With Hello program brings attention to the growing epidemic of social isolation in schools and communities and empowers young people to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness within their school. In three simple steps, Start With Hello teaches students to reach out and include those who may be dealing with social isolation, and who might be at risk or harming themselves or others.  Studies have shown that when young people feel connected to their school and community, they are less likely to commit a violent act against themselves or others. Start With Hello is a simple but powerful youth violence prevention program!

Riveting Example of the Power of Hello

If you want a riveting example of the power of hello, watch this video. This is a TED talk entitled "I Was Almost a School Shooter."  It reminds us all that the most powerful tool we have to protect ourselves and others from a violent act is our ability to connect with each other. We think you will agree, this Ted Talk should be required viewing in every school in America!
