Steppers

steppers
The Lyons Township High School (LTHS) Step Team is a diverse group of students that performs a form of step dancing, which is a rhythmic and percussive style of dance often associated with African American Greek-lettered fraternities and sororities.

LTHS Steppers typically showcase their skills at school events, competitions, and cultural programs, combining complex footwork, clapping, and spoken word to create intricate routines. Stepping is a tradition with roots in African dance and has become an important cultural expression in many high schools and colleges across the United States. Stepping is now a worldwide phenomenon practiced amongst people of all ages from drill teams, high schools to college fraternities and sororities and more. In stepping, the body is used to make sounds through clapping, stomping and spoken word. Modern day stepping also uses elements of tap dancing, break dancing, gymnastics and Afro-Caribbean dance.
