Tabulae Staff Application Process
Applications for the 2024-2025 staff are now closed. Applications for the 2025-2026 staff will open in December 2025.
Here's what the interview committee will take into consideration when looking over your portfolio before the formal interview. It would also be a good idea to look through previous editions of Tabulae to familiarize yourself with the sections/style of the book. In addition to your portfolio, two teachers of your choosing will also provide insight into your work ethic, character, and skills. Interviews are tentatively scheduled to take place January 29-30 in NC room 114.
Designers
Anticipated openings for '24-'25: 6-7 designers
Design/Layout/Graphic Design similar to magazine design; creating attractive yearbook pages that incorporate a number of design elements such as pictures, copy, alternative copy graphics, etc.; experience with desktop publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator is desirable though not required. Work samples can include graphics created in any software, flyers/posters/projects that you designed, etc. If you have NO portfolio, you should create a piece of design that shows your skill in artistic elements such as spacing, color, arrangement, and general aesthetic values.
Photographers
Anticipated openings for '24-'25: 5-7 photographers
Photography includes shooting, organizing, editing and selecting digital pictures; applying professional photography principles; experience in an LTHS photography class desirable though not required. Work samples should include 7 – 10 of your strongest photographs. All photography candidates must submit a portfolio (digital or printed/film) of 7-10 photos that you feel would be yearbook print-worthy and representative of your understanding of camera settings. Please make sure that your photos are high-resolution and if printed, printed well.
Writers
Anticipated openings for '24-'25: 7-8 writers
Feature writing includes finding and developing story angles and writing interesting feature stories. Also includes creating quick reads and alternatives to regular feature articles; experience in LTHS Journalistic Writing desirable though not required. Work samples should include 2-4 short non-fiction writing samples that you generated for a class, project, etc.
Social Media/ Digital Marketers
Anticipated openings for '24-'25: 1-2 producers
Digital marketing, content creation, multimedia formats highlight the variety of interests of the student body and provide a behind the scenes look at how the yearbook is made. While not directly involved in making yearbook pages, this position will coordinate with sponsors, coaches, and district administration to create social media posts, short videos, posters and other products to promote clubs, sports, activities, and events. Work samples should include 3-5 social media posts or print advertising (pictures/videos/stories) from any software that you designed. These artifacts should show an understanding of composition, audience engagement, and current design trends.
