ORCHESTRA INFO YOU WANT TO KNOW

Orchestra class provides a Fine Arts Credit for graduation.

Orchestra can be taken “credit/no credit” so credit is earned, but class rank is not affected.

The LT Orchestra performs five mandatory concerts per school year.  Countless other performance opportunities exist but are voluntary.  String students are free to be as involved in extra orchestral activities as they wish.

Courses at South Campus

Concert Orchestra is a regular class and meets during the school day for all incoming freshmen and most sophomore string players.  Students receive one fine arts credit for a year-long orchestra class.  During the second semester of their freshmen year, students have the option to audition for North Campus Symphonic Orchestra as a sophomore to perform more challenging music and receive Level 4 credit.

Courses at North Campus

Symphony Orchestra meets during the school day for any junior and senior string players and sophomores who have successfully auditioned.  This course is a full orchestra experience with strings, woodwind, brass, and percussion students, and receives Level 4 credit.  Woodwind, brass, and percussion students are drawn from the North Campus Wind Ensemble.

Sinfonietta meets during the school day for junior and senior string players who have successfully auditioned.  This course offers study and performance of advanced string orchestra literature and chamber music.  Repertoire will be performed without a conductor so soloistic playing and independent part mastery is expected.  Private study on one’s principal instrument is strongly recommended.  Sinfonietta also receives a Level 4 credit.
