Important Update: dance cancelled due to police activity at SC

Dear Lyons Township High School Community-

At approximately 4:15pm today, the Western Springs Police Department received a report of a physical altercation following the LTHS-Proviso West football game, and also received a report of a weapon at South Campus. The Western Springs Police Department conducted a search and located an unoccupied, parked vehicle in the South Campus parking lot, which contained what appeared to be two handguns under the driver and front passenger seats. This vehicle has been removed from the scene. The police located two unarmed male suspects who are currently in custody. No injuries were reported. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

The Western Springs Police Department does not believe there is any immediate or apparent threat to the community; however, LT's South Campus and the surrounding area is an active investigation scene, and will remain so during the next several hours. The police will maintain a heightened presence with additional patrols in the area.

After consulting with the Western Springs Police Department, LTHS is cancelling tonight's Homecoming Dance that was scheduled to occur at South Campus. We will make every attempt to reschedule our Homecoming Dance, and will communicate an update to our community during the upcoming week.

Student and staff safety remain our highest priority, and we will continue to work in collaboration with the Western Springs Police Department to keep our community updated.
