ILMEA All-State Musicians
Each year students are selected for the Illinois Music Educators All-State and All-District Festival Band, Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble.
The state is divided into 9 different districts. Lyons Township High School is located in District 1 which includes the City of Chicago and most of the South and Western suburbs. There are more than 80 high schools who participate in auditions on a yearly basis in District 1 and we are the largest number of participating schools in the state of Illinois.
The process begins in October when students audition for the District level ensembles. There are typically 2300-2500 students who auditioned for district ensembles in District 1.
This year LT had 45 students selected for district ensembles in the areas of band, choir, orchestra, jazz band and jazz choir.
The students with the highest scores in each district across Illinois are submitted to a meeting of all district presidents of ILMEA. At this meeting district representatives select the most outstanding students to represent their districts at the state level as members of the all-state ensembles. The number of entries allowed per district is based on the number of schools who participated in auditions.
This year LT had 10 student representatives at the all-state level. Once students are selected they either have their audition reviewed or they re-audition prior to the state conference for placement in the All-State or Honors Level Ensembles.
