Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is here! Red Ribbon week runs from October 23-30, 2020 and several activities have been planned for staff and students. The goal of this week is to raise awareness about Red Ribbon Week and the harmful effects of drugs and illegal substances. We will be kicking off our prevention efforts today with these events:

• Red Ribbon Photo Contest: Send your submissions to Nadia Malik by end of day Thursday, October 29. A winner will be announced on October 30. The rules are the same as the national contest and can be found here: https://www.redribbon.org/contest.
• We are encouraging staff and students to use Red Ribbon Week Zoom backgrounds to help create awareness of the Red Ribbon Campaign:

• Our annual WEAR RED day was Monday, Oct. 26. Please support the idea of healthy choices by wearing red yourself and encourage other staff and students to participate.
• On Monday, October 26, and Wednesday, October 28, Red Ribbons with the official theme, Be Happy, Be Brave, Be Drug Free, were passed out to students and staff during 1st period classes. Teachers and students were encouraged to wear the ribbons and display them in their classrooms and bookbags.
• On Tuesday, October 27 and Thursday, October 29, students were given a pledge card to sign and ask them to remain drug free. Students and faculty also received Red Ribbon Week lollipops to enjoy at home with this year’s theme during their 6th period classes.
• Wednesday, October 28, we hosted a webinar focused on substance abuse awareness with Andy Duran, CEO of LEAD. The webinar was held virtually and is titled, “Working Together to Raise Drug Free Teens” (recording). 
• Finally, on Friday, October 30, the winner of the Red Ribbon Photo Contest will be announced. Winners will receive a $10 Amazon gift card and their photo will be submitted to the National Red Ribbon Photo Contest.
